In recent days, it has come to my attention and others in many Yahoo! Groups that I belong to, that there is a Gay and Lesbian country. A Gay and Lesbian Country, you ask? Yes, according to recent emails and “official” sites, there has been a new country formed off the coast of Australia for Gay and Lesbians.

While this information at first seemed like a hoax, I decided to further investigate this claim. I went to the website that was included in an email a friend of mine sent to many Yahoo! Groups I belonged to. At the end of this article you can investigate this matter for yourself as I have included the URL to these “official” sites.

According to the sites, there was a group of gay and lesbian people that went to the Coral Sea Islands, and in an act of independence and defiance, set the Gay Rainbow Flag from the highest point of Heaven Island and declared the land a kingdom for Gay and Lesbian people of the world. This was in response to recent legislation of the Australian Parliament that bans gay and lesbian relationships and adoption rights.

The new kingdom put forth a document proclaiming their secession from Australia, a proclamation of independence, and a constitution. They sent copies of these documents to the Australian government, the British Government, and as many people as they could in order to get recognition. So far, the group has not received any word from the Queen, nor been recognized by the Prime Minister of Australia, but the matter is under consideration and investigation. The group also had to form a kingdom government consisting of a King/Emperor, and to do this they had to find someone with links to English Royal blood. Dale, being of the most royal blood, was named Emperor.

So what does this mean for Gays and Lesbians of the world? It means if this group’s actions are successful, we would have the first country solely dedicated and run by Gays and Lesbians. This could be good or it could be bad. The only way we will know will be dependant on if these groups’ actions are successful and their country is fully recognized. Only time will tell.

It is still unknown if this is a hoax, or for real, but I will look at finding out more information in the process. I have sent out request for confirmation or denial to the Australian government, and soon the British government. If this is a hoax, it is the most creative and largest gay oriented hoax I have seen in my 27 years of life. Stay tuned for more information in the future.
