One of the best things about owning an Android smartphone is the ability to download tons and tons of applications for free. To download any of the games shown here just click on your Market icon under the Applications tab of your smartphone.

Here is a list of my FREE Android “must-have” free games:


*Droid Words - This game is a Scrabble knock-off. I really like this game because it allows you to play against the computer, play against someone in the room with you or you can plan with someone online. I also like the fact that you can have numerous games playing at one time so you don’t have to just sit and wait for someone to play…you can keep another game going. The free version does have ads but you don’t see the ad until after your move so it isn’t a distraction.

*Paper Toss - This game is super addictive. Paper Toss is all about how good you are throwing a balled-up piece of paper into a trashcan. There are different boards and each board varies in difficulty. You can toss your paper in a bathroom, basement, at the airport and more. The object of the game is to get the highest number of paper balls in the trash can as possible. Whenever you miss a toss, the score board resets.

*WordUp - WordUp is a great game to play alone or with family and friends. It’s similar to Boggle. The object of WordUp is to create as many words as possible within the specified amount of time. The game is very customizable as you can select the board colors and the board size. You can also choose up to 4 players so the whole family can join in and play. At the end of the game, you can see all of the words you missed and their definitions. This is my favorite part as I can use that as a teaching opportunity for my children.

*Talking Tom Cat - This is a great app for my 3 year old son. Talking Tom Cat will repeat everything that you say to him but in his own voice. It’s a great way to keep my son busy when we go to doctor appointments, restaurants, etc. (Of course we bring our headphones). It’s loads of fun.
