Onsen Resorts of Japan

Japan is a land of many volcanoes. The by-products of these volcanoes are thermal springs. The thermal springs are known as onsen in Japan.

Bathing in onsen is a popular way to relax. It is a great way to soothe aching muscles and soak away problems. The art of onsen bathing began more than one thousand years ago during the Heian Period.

While in Japan, be sure to try this indulgence. Your tired tourist feet will love you. The hot, therapeutic waters will ease the day's pain away.

There are a few things to know in preparation for your onsen visit.

1. Onsen are usually outdoors.

2. Onsen can be single sex or multiple sex.

3. You wash before entering the water.

4. Bathing suits are not worn.

There are many different types of onsen. They differ by the kinds of minerals found in the hot waters. Different minerals cure different ailments. Check around if you have a complaint you want treated.

Some Japanese inns are built around the onsen. There you can receive a massage, aromatheraphy, and sauna. Free, open to the public, onsen can be found for your enjoyment, so there is no reason to miss this delightful pleasure.

A tip for the skiers and snowboarders heading to Japan for winter sports, this is the way the natives ease their tired muscles at the day’s end. After a dip in the onsen, you will be ready for the nightlife.
