Holland has recently begun to carry out legal euthanasia procedures on terminally ill patients with no hope of recovery or relief of pain. Now a hospital there has disclosed that it has used this method on newborn babies.
By administering a lethal dose of sedatives and muscle relaxants, physicians are killing babies that have been born prematurely and can only survive on life support or those that have incurable, possibly painful, illnesses.
These "mercy" killings take place after the resident medical team, independent physicians, and the child's parents reach a consensus. According to the Associated Press, the Groningen Academic Hospital admitted to executing four of these procedures in 2003.
Weigh in and tell us what you think about euthanasia being used on babies. Should this procedure be legal? In the United States? Your opinion counts, so let's hear it!
