Remember to make the choice by the diver’s experience. Some dive sites have strong currents and big waves. Also, remember to always dive with a buddy. It is the responsibility of the buddy to check the other’s equipment and well-being.
Palau Hantu(Ghost Island) is the best and recommended site for beginners. The warm waters are calm. This is the most popular dive site. There is some coral damage due to the popularity. Yet, there is abundance of other marine life for under water viewing. As well as the coral, there are sharks, turtles, sea horses and sponges. Clown fish, lionfish and batfish are there for viewing and starring in holiday photographs. Clown fish are known by little children the world over as Nemo of the Walt Disney movie fame. It is a 45 minute trip from the Jardine steps.
Kusa Island(Violin Island) and St. John’s Island are two other islands with mild currents. The ferry service departures are from the Sentosa Ferry Terminal. It is 30 minutes to Kusa and 45 minutes to the island of St. John’s. There are overnight camping shelters. Camping permits are issued by the Sentosa Leisure Group. Marine life consists of stony corals, sea snakes, Gorgonian sea fans, turtles plus more.
Lazarus Island is reachable from St. John’s Island by bridge. The waters are deemed calm except for the southern tip and western side. These areas are for the experienced divers. On the southern tip, there is a wreck for exploring from the outside.
Pulau Biola(Violin Island) and Raffles Lighthouse are for the strong, experienced diver. The coral is magnificient due to being the least explored island. The variety of marine life is mind boggling. These warm waters have large waves and strong currents. The visibility is poorer due to the swift moving waters.
Remember to bring the children in your life a photograph of Nemo. Enlarge and frame it! Nemo was found!
