Oreo has jumped on the low carb bandwagon with its CarbWell low sugar Oreo cookies. What is truly scary is seeing how much sugar is in NORMAL Oreo cookies!
First, the reminder that people on low carb diets are supposed to be cutting junk food out of their daily routine. Eating chocolate - even lower sugar chocolate - is not a healthy course of action. But if you have a chocolate craving, it's certainly better to have the lower sugar version rather than packing your mouth with high sugar foods that will go straight to your waist and cause health issues.
The Oreo CarbWell box comes wiht about 16 cookies, at 2 per serving. You want to eat these slowly and savor them, not down the entire box! Even in their reduced state, you have 6g of net carbs - plus another 7g of sugar alcohols (maltitol). In fact, maltitol is the primary ingredient in this snack, above flour! So if you're sensitive to sugar alcohols, this is NOT going to be good for you. Make sure you test yourself out with a small bite first, before you go for the full cookie.
That all being said, the cookies are reasonably good. I found them on the crumbly side, and the white inside was sort of super-sweet, but this is of course supposed to be a "candy". It would be perfect for a two-cookie treat with a cup of coffee in the afternoon, to give those sweet cravings something to tide them over.
