Osteoarthritis Lifestyle Changes

Though exercise may be the last thing on your mind when experiencing pain, itís essential to help strengthen bones and muscles, improve flexibility, reduce pain and fatigue and relieve stress and depression. But donít push too hard. Learning to relax and getting plenty of rest is also essential. Walking, swimming and yoga are excellent ways to stay active with a minimum of stress.

A regular exercise program will also help you to reach and maintain your optimum weight. Obesity is one of the major causes of arthritis since it puts so much stress on joints, particularly the hip and knees. Maintain a healthy weight by eliminating sweets and other refined carbohydrates and keeping your fat intake below 30% of your calories. And, drink lots of pure, clean water - at least eight glasses a day.

Exercise can help protect you from heart disease, diabetes, cancer, backaches, migraines, infections, osteoporosis and just about every other disease you can think of. Exercise will also help you fight off any depression you may be experiencing concerning your condition and help you look and feel your best, reducing your biological age by 10 to 20 years. That certainly seems worth the extra effort, don't you think?
