Here are the guidelines for skills that your first through fifth grade child should master in Math. Keep in mind that every child is individual, and many of these skills build on one another.

Math
Grade 1-
1.Counting, using a variety of strategies, to identify the number of objects in a set.
2. Identify numbers that are one more and one than + between
3. Add and subtract numbers using counting strategies.
4. Recognize, describe, and extend repeating patterns.
5. Compare and order the number of objects in sets.
6. Mastery of addition and subtraction facts, plus method awareness
7. Write and solve number sentences for story problems involving addition and subtraction.
8. Add and subtract 1- and 2-digit numbers without regrouping.
9. Solve problems using nonstandard measurement (ie. estimate)
10. Measure and select appropriate tools to measure length, time, and weight.
11. Use a ruler and estimate and measure length in inches.
12. Master addition and subtraction facts with sums through 10; be able to estimate these answers as well.
13. Gather and organize data using tallies, bar graphs, and simple pictographs; interpret data also
14. Identify and describe attributes of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional figures, as well as shapes that are congruent
15. Use symbols and pictures to represent #'s 12, 13 & 14
16. Determine the value of a set of coins through $1.00.
17. Solve problems involving adding and subtracting up to $1.00

Grade 2-
1. Understand and complete problems with numbers up to 1000
2. Identify numbers 10 more or less
3. Know the concepts of odd, even and equal to.
4. Know plane and solid figures
5. Add and subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers using a variety of strategies and solve problems involving addition and subtraction using models and number sentences.
6. Identify missing numbers in number sentences.
7. Estimate and measure length, weight, temperature, time, and capacity.
8. Demonstrate mastery of basic addition and subtraction facts for sums through 18.
9. Solve problems involving money through $10.00.

Grade 3
1. Represent 3- and 4-digit numbers in a variety of ways, and
subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers with regrouping.
2. Solve problems involving the area and perimeter of figures.
3. Demonstrate mastery of multiplication facts for 0, 1, 2, 5,
and 10; Solve multiplication and division problems using a variety of strategies. (Estimate these also)
4. Identify, describe, and classify 2- and 3-dimensional shapes;
Describe and represent slides, flips, and turns using pictures and objects.
5. Identify angles and describe how they compare with right angles.
6. Locate whole numbers and fractions with denominators of 2, 3, and 4 on a number line.
7. Time- tell time accurately and estimate and determine elapsed time using clocks and calendars.
8. Locate points on a grid or map.
9. Show mastery of temperature and measurement of it.

Grade 4-
1. Mean, Median, Mode and Range mastery
2. Classification of angle types.
3. Use place value skills through millions/millionths place.
4. Use problem solving skills.
5. Understands the concept of negative numbers.
6. Identify and describe points, lines, line segments, and rays.
7. Describe the relationship between fractions and decimals.
8. Multiply fractions and whole numbers using models and pictures.
9. Understands basic probability concepts.
10. Multiply any whole number by a 2- or 3-digit factor and divide any whole number by a 1-digit divisor.
11. Solve problems involving area, perimeter, volume, and elapsed time.

Grade 5-
1. Mastery of graphs, tables, etc. This includes creation of, interpretation and analyzation.
2. Understanding of Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple.
3. Know radius, diameter, center ad circumference of a circle.
4. Compare and calculate fractions to percents to decimals.
5. Order decimals.
6. Solve volume, perimeter and area of a figure or space.
7. Ratios and Probability.
8. Solve tessalation puzzles.
9. Use simple Algebraic expressions.
