January '05 Historicals

Hello, and welcome back! My January reading stack is shrinking slowly, but I still have some good books to share with you in the next week or two, before we start on the February releases.

Unfortunately, B&N has still not fixed their linking function, so I'm still unable to put direct links for books here, so I have this instead:
Search Books and the necessary information for each book so you can grab one if it's of interest to you.

First up this week is Cheryl Sawyer's Siren (ISBN 0451213777) (Signet Eclipse), and her tale of the pirate Jean Laffite and Leonore Roncival. If you're looking for a story with a lot of history, this one might be right up your alley. If you're looking for a light-hearted romp with a pirate, it won't be. For me, it was a little too much history and too little romance, but that may work very well for some of you. It's just not a keeper for me. It's earned only three of Cupid's five arrows.

For Regency fans, we have Jenna Mindel's Miss Whitlow's Turn (ISBN 0451210352) (Signet Regency). Harriet Whitlow's father is determined that this Season, she shall be wed. Harriet only wants George Clasby, whose rakish ways don't make a father inclinced to favor him. This one's sweet, if predictable. It gets three arrows.

Finally, we have Liz Carlyle's The Devil to Pay (ISBN 0743470044) (Pocket Star). The Black Angel has been making men regret their behavior, if only because of what she's taken from them. But the Marquess of Devellyn intends to make her pay for what she's taken from him. His neighbor Sidonie Saint-Goddard intrigues him, though she's not his usual type. Betrayal, however, is a powerful thing, one that can rarely be overcome, and Dev is no super-human. An intriguing tale, one that will have you wondering how Sidonie and Dev can possibly overcome her lies. I'm giving this one three and a half arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
