Climbing - Dream Symbols

When we dream of climbing, the emotions we felt during the dream are critical to its interpretation. Stairs and ladders symbolize progress. If you feel confident and exhilarated, you are making great progress toward a goal and are confident that you will achieve it. Folklore says that if you reach the last rung in a ladder in a dream, you will be successful in business. If you are frustrated, tired or depressed, then you may feel that the goal is beyond your reach and hopeless. If you are fearful or anxious, the goal is either just beyond your reach or you have some reservations about achieving it. One small change in our lives affects everything else in our lives. Even when a goal we have worked long and hard for is just coming to fruition, we may feel anxious about what this change will mean in our lives. We may also experience a feeling of letdown once we achieve a goal.

Climbing high with feelings of satisfaction or superiority may signal that you may be getting too "uppity" or egotistical - or that you are dealing with someone who thinks you are. "Pride Goeth Before A Fall." You may need to be aware of this in order to prevent being knocked down.

Walls and mountains symbolize obstacles. Walls literally symbolize feelings of "running up against a wall." A steep hill or mountain may signify feelings that a long, uphill climb is ahead of you.

For what it's worth, Freud considered dreams of climbing to symbolize a need for sexual fulfillment.
