Every October, millions of Americans gather together for The World Series, a monumental baseball game that takes place between the winners of the American League Championship Series and the National Championship League Series. The World Series has been played for over 100 years, bringing a sense of nostalgia to its viewers: what fan could forget their first game? Throw a fun, fabulous World Series party for your friends, family, or co-workers with the following tips. This party will have your guests ready to do the wave!
-Invitations for this sporting event can be extended in person, over the phone, or by mail.
-Write the specifics of the party (date, time, place, etc) on the back of a baseball card (or on the foil wrapper of a pack) and pass them out or mail them.
-Casual dress for this type of party is expected, but you can liven it up by asking your guests to dress in their team colors or to come dresses as their favorite baseball player, living or dead.
-Decoration for this party is easy! A home plate or a grass-look welcome mat laid at your front door will let guests know they’ve come to the right place to play ball.
-Decorate in team colors for the party, right down to the plates, cups, napkins and utensils.
-Hang an old jersey on the wall behind the buffet table and pennants throughout your home.
The Party Favor:
-For a party favor all your guests will enjoy, take a blank baseball cap (you can get them in a variety of colors for $2.99 at Amazon) and fill it with stadium favorites: a pack of baseball cards (skip this if you used a pack as your invitation), sunflower seeds, a small box of cracker jacks, and peanuts.
-Serve the party favors to your guests in a ‘peanut vendor’ style box. To make the box, use the lid from a sturdy cardboard box (copy paper lids work well), poke a hole on each side, and tie a strand of thick ribbon or nylon strapping around it, making sure to use enough so you can wear it around your neck.
-Before, after, or even during a lull in the game, break out your own game of baseball of the wits:
-Pre-assemble 4 poster boards (one will work if you don’t have four) in a square shape along a long wall in the main room of your party. Draw a mock scoreboard on it, leaving room to write in the names of teams later on after everyone has arrived.
-Divide your guests into two teams, and have a contest to see who knows the most baseball trivia or knows the most quotes from Yogi Berra. Each ‘inning’ will consist of 3 questions for each team, keeping track of the correct and incorrect answers on the scoreboard you’ve made.
-Food should be served buffet style to allow your guests easy access at any time during the party and also to allow you to sit back and enjoy the game.
-Set up a ‘make your own hot dog’ bar at one end of the buffet by neatly placing hot dogs, and buns on festive plates, surrounding them with typical toppings- relish, chili, coleslaw, mustard, and ketchup- served in small bowls or miniature baseball helmets from your local party supply store.
-Be sure to serve other ballpark staples as well. Nachos and soft pretzels go over well as do chip and dip combinations.
-Serve bottled beverages chilled in a metal bucket filled with ice for an old-fashioned feel.
