Every year we can hardly wait for the latest action packed blockbusters. 2007 has been no exception. This year has seen the return of some familiar favorites to the big screen. We take a look at some of the action sequels that have already graced the silver screen and some of those still to come!
28 Weeks Later
Released on May 11th, 2007, “28 Weeks Later” starred Robert Carlyle in a fight for his and his family’s lives against the infected. This movie was the sequel to 2002’s “28 Days Later” starring Cillian Murphy.
AVP2: Alien vs. Predator
The alien life forms return to do battle again in this movie set to hit theaters in December 2007. Lance Henriksen starred in the first “Alien vs. Predator” movie that was released in 2004.
The Bourne Ultimatum
Matt Damon returns as Jason Bourne who tries to place the pieces of his past back together. “The Bourne Ultimatum”, the sequel to “The Bourne Identity” (2002) and “The Bourne Supremacy” (2004), comes to theaters on August 3, 2007.
Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer
The Fantastic Four (Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis) have their hands full not only with Dr. Doom (Julian McMahon) but also with the Silver Surfer and Galactus in this sequel to 2005’s “Fantastic Four”. The movie is set for release on June 15th, 2007.
The surprise hit “Hostel” was released in 2005. “Hostel II” focuses on students in similar situations who have to fight to stay alive. The movie stars Bijou Phillips and comes to theaters on June 8th, 2007.
Live Free Or Die Hard
Bruce Willis’ character John McClane first hit the silver screen in 1988 in “Die Hard”. That was followed by 1990’s “Die Hard 2” and 1995’s “Die Hard with a Vengeance”. This time around John McClane has to battle internet terrorism in “Live Free or Die Hard”, hitting theaters on June 27th, 2007.
National Treasure: Book of Secrets
Nicolas Cage and most of the cast from 2004’s “National Treasure” are back in this sequel that’s scheduled to be released on December 21st, 2007. The gang tries to uncover the secrets to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination by tracking down missing pages from the diary of John Wilkes Booth. Joining the cast is Helen Mirren and Ed Harris.
Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and the boys are back in this sequel to 2001’s “Ocean’s 11” and 2004’s “Ocean’s 12”. The gang reunites to face off against a new nemesis, played by Al Pacino. The movie opens on June 8th, 2007.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns in the sequel to “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl” (2003) and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” (2006). Not only must he, Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) have to do battle with Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) but the world of piracy is threatened itself. This blockbuster hit theaters on May 25th.
Resident Evil: Extinction
Milla Jovovich and Oded Fehr return in “Resident Evil: Extinction”. The movie, which hits theaters in September 2007 is the sequel to 2002’s “Resident Evil” and “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” (2004).
Rush Hour 3
Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are back in “Rush Hour 3”, the sequel to the previous “Rush Hour” movies that came out in 1998 and 2001. The duo are fighting criminals, this time in Paris, in this movie, coming to theaters on August 10th, 2007.
Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) returns in the fourth installment of this franchise. The “Saw” movies have been released each year since 2004. 2007 will be no exception. “Saw IV” comes to theaters on October 26th.
Spidey (Tobey Maguire) was back in this hit film that was released on May 4th. “Spider-Man 3”, the sequel to the previous films released in 2002 and 2004, saw the web slinging hero facing off against Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace) and a new Goblin (James Franco).
Wrong Turn 2
What’s in store in the woods for some reality show contestants? 2005’s “Wrong Turn” starred Eliza Dushku. The sequel, set for release in October 2007, stars Henry Rollins.
