I am 8 weeks pregnant and my wedding date is set for April 2. My wedding in going to be pretty informal, just a few family and friends. I want to find a CASUAL wedding dress but have no idea where to go or what to look for. I am also not sure how big my stomach will be in April. Any ideas? I need all the help I can get.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and your wedding! While you will hear “every pregnancy is different” on average, women usually gain two to four pounds by the end of the first trimester and about one pound per week in months four through eight. If this is your first pregnancy, you can probably gage what size you will be in April. (Usually with the second pregnancy, you tend to show a lot sooner.)

Catalog company J.Crew has an entire wedding and “dress up” section that you should check out. I am a big fan of the Sophia long silk dress but if it’s not casual enough for you, take a look at the knee-length Sophia silk dress. Some J.Crew stores also carry the wedding and “dress up” section.

You can pretty much go into any department store and buy a dress off the rack if you are not comfortable with buying a dress until you have a better idea of what size you will be. You may find that you just have to go a dress size or two up for your wedding dress. Make sure to check out “bridesmaids dress” sections as they tend to have many casual dresses available off the rack.
