While browsing the Internet the other day I found some tools for the PDA that I wanted to share with you. These tools are for the medical profession that could be very useful. What I found was tools for cancer treatment, medical calculators for various things, bone & anatomy flash cards, student helps and a host of other add-on medical products.
Epocrates has a very useful comprehensive drug guide. This add-on allows you to learn about a specific drug and a drug interaction checker. Another drug add-on is a disease reference which provides reliable clinical information to you at the point of care. Included are hundreds of diagnostic and laboratory tests. This product also includes continual free updates and medical news! You have the ability to select from multiple platforms such as Palm, Win Mobile, iPhone, Blackberry and Win Smartphone. For those who are on medication this tool would be very useful. Plus, these two add-ons are free! I have the links for this software below.
‘Mobile Resource Center’ is another tool where you can stay current while saving time and effort with relevant clinical news and research in medical conditions or specialties. There are a list of articles on subjects like arterial fibrillation, pain management, lung cancer or asthma to name a few. Articles are selected and commented upon by Contributing Editors – physicians who are considered to be leaders in their fields. Platforms available for this add-on are Palm OS and Windows Mobile.
For the Healthcare Professionals there are a wide range of specialty tools available. Tools such as BMI calculator, Bipolar MDQ screening tool, drip rate calculator, INR calculator, STAT cholesterol tool and others.
Below I have added the links to the above software comparison charts. These charts will aide you in seeing what each of their free or paid medical add-on products include and the supported platforms.
For the medical student one company seem to specialize in putting together ‘tool boxes’ which contained useful PDA products for the following categories:
* Anesthesia Tool Box
* ER Suite
* ER & ICU Tool Box
* Nurse’s Tool Box
* Paramedic’s Tool Box
If one of the tool boxes did not fit your needs you could search via profession or all products. You will find add-ons for medical students, coding and billing and calculator series. Bundling products is also very common on this website.
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
This cancer center has a list of cancer tools. These tools are for both doctors and patients. You may use these tools online or request a download for your PDA from what I read.
For those who are interested in medical PDA add-ons I recommend you go to MedPDA.net. This website has a range of services from reviews to articles. I am not an expert by any means in this field. The information just seemed very exciting and useful. My friend is a RN and she was not aware of these tools so I thought many of you might not be either as they are not advertised with all the games and business programs.
Let me know what you guys think of the medical PDA add-ons. I would love to know if the sites were useful.
