Victims of Sea Level Rise

Over the past century the sea level has risen about 15 centimeters that has threaten the coastal areas of the world, home to huge numbers of people. The sea has already grabbed homestead and huge lands of many people of Tuvalu(an island country in the Pacific Ocean), the coastal area of Bangladesh and other low lying countries. Natural disasters like cyclone, tidal surge, and tsunami are happening frequently in this area and these are enough to make people panicked and horrified.

This problem is present in other island nations like Papua New Guinea and Maldives. The faster rate of glacier melting in the polar area is the cause of sea level rising. At the beginning of the year 2009, British research team ‘The Kettlin Arctic Survey’ has done a research in northern part of Buford sea of North Pole. They told that the North Pole will be an open sea of glacier melting water in summer within next decade. Professor Pitter Wad hams said that Including this research, the result of the research showed that within next 20 to 30 years glaciers of the North Pole would totally melt down in the summer.

The report of United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has mentioned that if the sea level rises only one meter, 29 thousand 8 hundred 46 square kilometer land of Bangladesh will be submerged; 14.8 million people will be affected.

The sea is running its silent aggression in many places of the sea shore through out the world. In Bangladesh a whole village of the country's coastal area went under the sea because of the erosion. Some Senior citizens who once had owned huge farmland in the Kutubdia Island, Bangladesh, lost their entire property.

The environmental activists of those countries are demanding that the local governments must take actions immediately to face the effect of global warming. Some countries have taken measures to plant trees on the coastal belt embankments. They are also raising the height of those embankments. But most of those countries are in need of fund to carry out these programs. With the projects of carbon mitigation to slow down the process of global warming people should pay attention to these victims of sea level rise.
