Action Movies On DVD

Some of this year’s biggest blockbusters will be coming to DVD before the end of the year. We take a look at some of the most highly anticipated DVD releases (and re-releases) and when they’ll be available for purchase.

Blade Runner
Harrison Ford stars as Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner who comes out of retirement to track down a group of replicants in this 1982 favorite. “Blade Runner” will be available on December 18th as a two disc “Final Cut” edition, a four disc “Collector’s Edition” and a five disc “Ultimate Edition”.

The Bourne Ultimatum
Will Jason Bourne finally be able to put together the pieces of his past? “The Bourne Ultimatum” stars Matt Damon, Joan Allen and Julia Stiles. The DVD is scheduled for release on December 11th.

Braveheart
Mel Gibson stars as William Wallace in 1995’s “Braveheart”. Wallace, a Scotsman, leads a rebellion of fellow countrymen against the dreaded English King Longshanks (Patrick McGoohan). Look for the special collector’s edition on December 18th.

Chinatown
Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson), a private detective, gets more than he bargained for when he takes on a case that involves a philandering husband. Faye Dunaway and Diane Ladd also star in this 1974 classic. The special collector’s edition of “Chinatown” is set for release on November 6th.

Grindhouse: Planet Terror
A group of survivors try to fight against an onslaught of zombies in this flick by Robert Rodriguez. Originally released with “Grindhouse: Death Proof”, the movie stars Rose McGowan, Naveen Andrews and Josh Brolin and will hit stores in a two disc feature on October 16th. Please note that this release only includes “Planet Terror” and is not combined with “Death Proof”.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix
It’s the fifth year at Hogwarts for Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his friends. But it’s not a typical year as Harry soon learns with the arrival of the dreaded Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) and the increasing threats from Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). Look for Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenixon December 11th.

Harry Potter Years 1-5
This Limited Edition Gift Set will also be available on December 11th. With seven discs, the set includes all five movies and three hours of special features (including the HBO first look specials). The set comes in a unique “trunk” and also includes five collectible bookmarks, sixteen trading cards and an interactive DVD game.

Hot Fuzz
The three disc collector’s edition of Hot Fuzz hits stores on November 27th. In this action/comedy, tough cop Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is reassigned to the sleepy town of Sandford and is stuck with new partner Danny Butterman (Nick Frost). But all isn’t what it seems to be in the tranquil little town!

Hudson Hawk
The 15th anniversary of this action/comedy is available on November 20th. Starring Bruce Willis in the title role and Danny Aiello as Tommy Five-Tone, the movie tells the story of the infamous burglar Hudson Hawk, who tries to go straight after a stint in prison only to be lulled back in for a final caper when the life of his friend is at stake.

Live Free Or Die Hard
Bruce Willis returns as John McClane in “Live Free or Die Hard”. This time around John has to face terrorism based on the World Wide Web. The movie also stars Justin Long and is available on November 20th with a two disc unrated edition.

National Treasure
This two disc collector’s edition will hit stores on December 18th, just in time before the highly anticipated sequel, “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” hits theaters. “National Treasure” starred Nicolas Cage as adventurer Ben Gates who has spent a lifetime looking for a secret treasure buried long ago by the U.S. forefathers. When his partner, Ian Howe (Sean Bean) turns against him, it’s a race against time to see who will get to the treasure first.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End
Captain Jack is back to fight one more day as the world of piracy is at risk for extinction! “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush. Look for this two disc, limited edition DVD in stores on December 4th.

The Reaping
Katherine Winter is a former missionary who now spends her time debunking religious phenomenon, but she has her work cut out for her when she visits the town of Haven, Louisiana where the ten Biblical plagues have begun. “The Reaping” stars Hilary Swank and is available on DVD on October 16th.

Rush Hour 3
Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) and Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) return in “Rush Hour 3”. This time around the duo must work together in Paris. Look for “Rush Hour 3” on December 26th.

Shrek The Third
Can Shrek and friends convince the young Artie to take the throne of Far, Far Away? “Shrek the Third” features the voices of Antonio Bnderas, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers and Justin Timberlake. Look for the DVD in stores on November 13th.

Skinwalkers
Two werewolf factions are at war over the young Timothy. “Skinwalkers”, which hit stores on November 27th, stars Jason Behr, Rhona Mitra and Matthew Kight as Timothy.

Spider-Man 3
The third installment of the web slinging hero comes to DVD in a two disc special edition on October 30th. This time around, Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) has his hands full with the Sandma(Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace) and the New Goblin (James Franco).

Transformers
Earth is the battlefield between the Autobots and the Decepticons in this blockbuster! Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Megan Fox and Tyrese Gibson star in Transformerswhich is available in a two disc special edition on October 16th.

Underdog
It’s Underdog to the rescue when this crime fighting dog comes to DVD on December 18th. Jason Lee voices the title character with Amy Adams voicing Polly. The movie also stars James Belushi and Peter Dinklage.

Just In Case You’ve Forgotten About These…

28 Weeks Later
Six months after it spread through England, the rage virus returns to wreak havoc with the survivors who are trying to repopulate the area. “28 Weeks Later” stars Robert Carlyle and Rose Byrne.

1408
This horror/action film is available in a 2-disc special edition. John Cusack stars as a paranormal expert/writer who is adamant to stay in the haunted room 1408 with drastic consequences. Samuel L. Jackson also stars as the hotel manager.

The Condemned
It’s a game of survival when ten people are placed on an island and the only way out is to annihilate the other contestants. Steve Austin stars in this action film.

Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer
The Fantastic Four have their work cut out for them when the ominous Silver Surfer arrives, bent on destroying the world. This movie stars Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, Chris Evans, Ioan Gruffudd and Julian McMahon.

Grindhouse: Death Proof
Quentin Tarantino directed this half of the “Grindhouse” films starring Kurt Russell as a crazed madman who likes to terrorize others with his car. Rosario Dawson also stars in the movie which is available as a 2-disc special edition. Be warned! This release does not include the second “Grindhouse” film “Planet Terror”. The DVDs will only include each individual film.

The Jungle Book
This timeless Disney animated adventure tells the story of Mowgli, who has been raised in the jungle by wolves. With the ruthless tiger Shere Khan determined to find Mowgli, the wolves decide to send him to a village for his own safety. Mowgli’s adventure along the way allows him to meet the loveable bear Baloo. This two disc 40th Anniversary Platinum Edition is now in stores for a limited time.

Rise: Blood Hunter
Lucy Liu stars as Sadie Blake in the action/horror flick. Sadie, a reporter, has been turned into a vampire and she’s determined to take revenge on those who made her that way. “Rise: Blood Hunter” also stars Michael Chiklis.

Surf’s Up
It’s the Penguin World Surfing Championship in this animated feature! “Surf’s Up” features the voices of Zooey Deschanel, Jon Heder and Shia LaBeouf.
