Nestle Crunch Sugar Free Bar

Finally, Nestle Crunch has come out with a sugar free bar. It has actual rice - not soy - but it sweetened with maltitol, a sugar alcohol.

I *love* Nestle Crunch bars, so this is very great as far as I'm concerned. Note that sugar free never means "really healthy for you" - often what you are eating is a concoction of chemicals :) Still, if it is a holiday and you were planning on eating sugary things, this is at least better for you.

The chocolate here is creamy, but not super chocolatey. It's sort of like the very cheap Easter Bunnies you get sometimes, where you can sort of taste a chocolate flavor but it's not a rich one.

The regular bar of this is 18g a bar - not really a "calorie / carb free treat". If you eat the mini version, you get 21g for only 4 mini bars (about 1" cubes).

Of course, the standard warning about sugar alcohols has to apply here. Some people end up with ... ahem ... gastric distress if they eat too many sugar alcohols. It's always wise to start with ONE to see how your body responds. If you're OK after a day or two, it's fine to step up to larger quantities. I personally didn't have any problem here.

But in general I really wasn't that impressed - I would rather eat other sugar free chocolate offerings.
