When the Black & Decker Programmable coffeemaker suddenly had this coffee grounds eruption and destroyed itself one morning I was pretty shocked. I was even more shocked to call up to report my problem, only to be told it would be weeks before it would be replaced. I sent them an email and informed them I would be replacing that coffeemaker with a different brand and would surely follow up with a review. Interestingly I had my coffeemaker a few days later courtesy of the Fed Ex man.
I had already replaced it with a different brand and planned to list it on eBay. My husband travels for his work and takes his coffeemaker with him. On his last night in a different state in preparation for traveling home, he accidently broke his pot. My first thought was, we can buy a replacement. Then I remembered the brand new machine sitting by the front door.
I got it out, hooked it up and gave it a try. Within three days, it was unplugged and in the trash can!
It had the same eruption on the second day but thankfully I was standing close by so I was able to catch it before it spilled all over the place and ruined the machine. I ended up having to pour out the coffee it did manage to make because it was full of coffee grounds.
The next day, the third day I had another mess. This time I ended up with water on the counter and the cord sitting right smack in the middle of it and the digital clock under the hot plate flashing.
That was it. Before that coffeemaker had the chance to cause more serious damage than a big mess, it was gone. I couldn't even put it on eBay because I felt it was so dangerous that I couldn't sell it without telling the buyer. Who would want to buy a coffeemaker like that? I wouldn't give a nickel for this model. I hope that all of you will learn from my wasted $25.
The last time around I bought a Mr. Coffee and after a few more days, I'll be sharing my opinion of that model.
