The All Natural Approach

The All Natural Approach

The All Natural Approach refers to natural products for your beauty. In the ethnic and multi-ethnic population many are already familiar with all natural products herbal products and botanical products. When you look for all natural product for skin care what exactly are you looking for? Do you know what ingredients or chemical used in your skin care and body care products are considered natural?

What I would like to do here is to define what's natural, botanical and herbal. Each one of these words refer to a different process. Example: when a product says natural it usually means no artificial ingredients used. It does not however mean that the ingredients are plant based. Many people think natural means as nature intended, but when it comes to cosmetics and skincare products this can be very misleading to the consumer. The marketers are counting on you not knowing enough about natural ingredients to question whether the product is really natural or not. One thing to realize about products that claim to be natural is they don't have a long shelf life. If the product is truly natural then you will have to use it and replace it on a regular basis. Also with natural products the essential oils or herbal extracts used in the product will lose it's effectiveness. This is how you can rate whether or not a product is really "all natural". In some "all natural" products you will find the ingredients separate causing you to have to shake it or stir the product. This is proof that the product is all natural.

When we talk about shelf life we mean how long the product has been sitting on the warehouse shelf before being shipped to the store for purchase. The one thing I would always look for when buying natural products is how pure the product is and whether or not I recognize the ingredients as being natural. If you are really concerned about how natural a product is always check out the ingredients. If you are not familiar with the ingredients take the time to familiarize yourself. I still say if you can not pronounce the ingredient's name do not buy it or trust it if you truly are looking for all natural.

Also please beware that even though natural products are great it is still possible to have skin sensitivity or an allergic reaction to the ingredients. Always consult with your dermatologist for any questions about natural products for your skin. Your dermatologist is the best person to ask about herbal and botanical skin care products.

So to sum up what's natural here's what we have: 1. Products that use natural plant origin ingredients have a very short shelf life. By not using artificial or synthetic preservatives and stabilizers, they do not keep for long periods of time. 2. The natural ingredients will lose their effectiveness over time. The essential oils and herbal extracts is enough to preserve and stabilize the product itself. Which is why you will have to have a fresh supply more often than main stream personal care products. 3. All natural products should contain botanical and/or herbal ingredients, plant based ingredients. There should be no artificial or synthetic ingredients present.

In the coming weeks we will take a closer look at the All Natural Approach. We will explore the "All Natural Approach" in skin care and personal care. Not all natural products are created equally and let’s discover together why they aren’t.
