New Year's Resolutions and Plans for Writers.

Ah, a New Year is about to arrive in a few days. As a writer, what goals or resolutions have you made to help you make this your most successful year of writing so far?

If you find yourself still wondering how to make this year different in your writing career, no worries. Let's take a look at some ideas to help you get started.

New Year's Resolutions for Writers:

What one thing do you want to change this year about your writing career? Did you miss deadlines last year? Do you look back over this past year and wonder why you did not get more writing done? Did you miss any of your short or long term goals? Did you forget this past year to make and write down goals?

Take some time to ponder on one important thing you would like to change this coming year about your writing. It can be anything from relearning the basics of grammar to finding a more comfortable place or time to write.

Resolutions should be easy and simple. Leave the heavy lifting for your goals and weekly plans. It's easy to keep a resolution when it is something small you want to change. Next year at this time, you will look back with a feeling of satisfaction knowing you made one resolution and kept it!

New Year Plans for Writers:

Great, a clean slate, I love the beginning of all new years. It allows me to put aside the questions and unsuccessful events of the past year. I get to start with a clean, fresh slate, and boy, does that feel good.

Without bemoaning what you wish you had done this past year, sit down and write out your short term goals for this new year. Write out one or two or three that have to do with your writing. Keep them simple for now. As the year progresses, you can add and subtract from this list. Right now, you want to start with a fresh look and easy to do short term goal list.

Next, write down one to two ways you are going to take action on each of the short term goals you just wrote down. For example, one of my short term goals this year is to put into place my online platform for my writing. My action steps include the following:

1. Defining my main writing platform.
2. Writing out a marketing plan for my platform.
3. Defining a specific platform for my first two books
4. Writing out a marketing plan for my first two books
5. Scheduling the tasks in my marketing plans and then keeping track of my progress.

These are just a few to give you an idea of what I'm suggesting here. As writers we need to use our creative abilities to visualize our books and their success in their respective genres before we write them.

Great, now it's your turn. Jump on over to my forum and tell me about your New Year's Resolutions and Plans for 2012. Let's make this the best year ever.

To your continued success and happiness,
