The Wedding Date
This romantic comedy stars Debra Messing (Will and Grace) as Kat and Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend's Wedding) as Nick. When invited to her sister's wedding, Kat is told that her family hopes she isn't still single. Desperate to appease her family while making her ex-boyfriend jealous, she hires a male escort to be her perfect boyfriend. With a plot as predictable as a sunrise, mediocre laughs, and lackluster supporting roles, you'd think this film would be a complete flop. It's redeemed by Messing's ability to make Kat more than just a typical desperately single girl; she adds real life and humor to her part. Mulroney is charming and sexy as Nick, and also saves the film with his brooding performance and great delivery.
