Lots to Learn DVDs Product Review

Review by Jeanette Norman

I’m not big on letting kids view a lot of TV in a preschool classroom but some videos are too good to pass up sometimes. This set of 3 DVDs is a great addition to a preschool curriculum both in class and for home schoolers.

Despite being a 4 year old, my daughter Aubrey usually isn’t interested in TV shows or movies, but the Lots to Learn series caught her attention. The nature scenes and games in this video are bright and peaceful. One thing that I think is appealing for children who watch this is that it is fast paced. The concept being taught doesn’t get drawn out and boring. The music is up beat but not annoying. Aubrey’s favorite part of the Nature video is the matching game. They show an animal then ask the child to find the match. It will pause for a few seconds then the correct answer will flash. I think this excites the child when they get it right because it is like it is flashing because they got it right.

This DVD introduces a sock puppet character named Buster. He is just so adorable! This DVD covers all of the basic preschool concepts and shows children how exercise can be fun. There is a song that encourages them to get up and move around in their area. The DVD takes a look at the different rooms of the home. As the first one, the color are bright and vibrant and the music is up beat but not annoying. This one is a little more interactive then the Nature DVD which Aubrey loved. The counting in English and Spanish is a great way to introduce younger children to the use of another language.

Buster talks in this one and the kids loved it. The introduction of Gato (which is Spanish for cat) was nice too. He has this funny deep voice that cracked my children up. There is even more Spanish learning in this video. My two children love racing to see who can name the answers in all of the games first. It is as all of the other two bright, lively and fun.

Over all this is a great series for children from infant to about 6 years. They are simple yet educational. The quality compared to most small studio children’s videos is awesome, the best I have seen in years. These are videos that you can watch with your children and praise them as they interact with each. I highly recommend this series.
