The subtitle for Trina Boice’s new book is “Thinking outside the green gelatin box”, a reference to the discovery that Utahns (and by association, Latter-day Saints) use more green Jello than people in any other state. When Homemaking turned into Enrichment and was directed to become less craft-centered, many Relief Society leaders felt lost. What could they do that would be both fun and educational? Trina’s book offers hundreds of ideas, enough to keep your Relief Society busy for years, and will also spark new ideas as you gain a vision of the new program.

The book begins with a discussion of Enrichment night, a history of Relief Society and guidelines for creating an enriching program for your sisters. The suggestions for actual activities are based on the ten categories suggested by the church. For example, under marriage and family relations is a suggestion that a class be held on how to arrange family pictures on the wall and in your home. The literacy section suggests recording church books for sisters with poor eyesight or reading challenges.

Any Relief Society will find enough activities to keep them busy for years to come, but the ideas are also valuable for other organizations within the church, and even for families looking for uplifting Family Home Evenings.
