Decorating with Pictures

You can use family pictures to decorate in every room of the house. Use these techniques in the entry, the living room, the kitchen, the garden and even the bathroom. Learn how to incorporate family pictures into decor by using these easy ideas.

Using Family Pictures to Decorate the Living Room

You can frame pictures and hang them on the walls. That one was obvious. Try using photo editing software to turn all your images into black-and-whites, or sepia tones. You can also add digital scrap booking elements that match your decor or compliment the image.

Decorating the bathroom with Family Pictures

There's a liquid called Omni-Gel Transfer Medium that allows you to transfer any image onto fabric. You paint the gel onto the image, allow it to dry and then iron it on. You can add pictures to hand towels, or transfer the images to canvas and it looks likes a painting.

Using Family Photos to Decorate the Kitchen

You can order photo plates and line them up on a shelf in the kitchen. Kodak Gallery allows visitors to have their photos professionally printed on coffee mugs, plates, etched into stemware and even emblazoned on a kitchen apron.

Decorating in the Dining Room with Family Photos

Print or copy 12x12 scrap booking images onto place mats for your next family dinner. Choose a color scheme that compliments your decor. Won't guests be surprised to see your family pictures staring up at them while they eat? These place mats are fantastic memory-sparkers and conversation starters. You could even use them as place holders.

Decorating in the Garden with Family Photos

Use photo editing software, like Photoshop, or the free downloadable GIMP program to create lined drawings of your family pictures. These lines can be carved into clay or sheeted copper and used to decorate your garden. Copper portrait carvings can be used to create wind chimes, or as small staked decorations.

Decorating the Foyer With Family Pictures

You can use a projector to enlarge a family portrait onto your wall. Use photo editing software to recolor the image so that it's not as complicated. Even a line drawing looks great as a mural. Trace the projected image onto the wall with a pencil and use crafter's acrylic paint to fill it in.

Using pictures to decorate can make every room in the house feel like it's filled with love. Keeping your memories out where they're visible is way more fun than having them stuffed in a box. When you decorate with family pictures, you can keep the good times close at hand.
