McFly - Doin' it For Charidee

Comic Relief is a 4-yearly comedy treat laying on the biggest comedy talent the UK has to offer, all in the name of charity (or 'charidee' which is a Brit thing, ask and i'll explain it if you're confused!)

The evening may have come and gone, but there are still a few left over treats which we can all pick up via Amazon, no matter where in the world you are, in order to help fund charity work here in the UK and over in Africa. But whats this got to do with Pop Music?, I hear you ask. McFly, dear readers, is the reason.

Cynical old broad as I am, I was very quick to judge this little four-piece as a mini-Busted, and I just couldn't take to them, I found them slightly dull and charmless, although hands up McFly fans if you can't tell me which one looks really bored and would rather be doing something more credible? Anyway, that aside, now Busted are long gone and very quickly evaporated, McFly are out there on their own merit now and have no-one to be compared to. I also learnt recently that they write everything, big fan as I am of that skill in musicians, so in that alone they gain brownie points from me.

They were chosen to do the Comic relief single this time round, they chose cutesy little love song 'It's All About You', added an orchestra, threw in a few guitars and some great vocals and gave us one hell of a good song. It's more than just a charity record, it's actually really, really happy and the vocals are great, with fab harmonies too.

And ok, wait for it, scary touchy subject here and i know many will think i'm wrong but it's just my thoughts, but - they remind me of The Beatles. They really, really do. And not the so-called 'credible' late 60's stuff bands like Oasis and the like aspire to be, McFly are those early days young boys with a talent, ok so there's no traditional Rock 'n' Roll angst or anything, but be fair, that stuff would indeed be contrived judging the times we are in compared to the 50's and 60's where The Beatles began. Their harmonies are very Beatles, their music is pretty unique and anyone who says otherwise is either lying or showing off that they can't like McFly cos they're not deemed cool, whatever 'cool' is supposed to be these days anyway.

But for those who know McFly, and I know you're out there reading this, and you all also know I must have been won over as I never was a fan, if you haven't seen the early Beatles footage yet, have a look and a listen, and maybe throw in something like The Monkees too, should McFly been around back then i'm certain they'd have been up with the rest. But they weren't then but they are now and I have a new found respect for them.

Take a look on Amazon for it if you wanna help out this great charity, or if you just want to hear this great song, and they may have been overtaken by the other Comic Relief single 'Amarillo' by the crooner Tony Christie, mimed by the genius that is Peter Kay, but it's all good fun and a good cause. Oh, and have a look for the Little Britain DVD from HMV stores or HMV online, if you want an idea of what we Brits find funny these days.
