Wildseed Farms® Fredericksburg Texas

In my last article, I talked about how I was able to bring back a taste of Fredericksburg, Texas by visiting the Fischer & Wieser® food emporium there. While it was difficult to make a selection from all the many tempting offerings, I selected a few items-- Campfire Corn Salsa and the Whiskey ‘n’ Peaches BBQ Sauce. Since then, I have been able to relive my trip to Fredericksburg, Texas.

While food is definitely important in this unique town, there are many other attractions from historical sites to outstanding recreational opportunities, making it a fun place to visit. Homey and elegant B&B’s such as Rose Hill Manor (www.rose-hill.com) and the cozy cabins of the Cotton Gin (www.cottonginlodging.com) that lets you step back in time (while still enjoying modern pampering) abound.

Since Texas is noted for its profusion of wild flowers, while I was in the area, I also visited the famous Wildseed Farms®, one of the best places to get a close-up look at these beauties. As you drive in from the highway, your eyes just pop with the brilliance of wildflowers.

From brilliant Crimson Clover to the subtle Baby Blue Eyes, you’ll find a massive assortment of plants so overwhelming that you’ll wish you could bring them back home with you. The good part is that, because Wildseed Farms® develops seeds specifically designed for various regions of the U.S., you can add the beauty of Texas wildflowers to your yard back home.

“Come for the flowers, Stay for the atmosphere!” is their motto, and it’s easy to spend a day here because there’s plenty to do. Bring your camera, because the photo opportunities here are as profuse as the flowers. This is a real working wildflower farm, where you can see how wildflowers are grown and harvested for seed.

With walking trails, trial and display gardens, and the Nature Haus, you can not only enjoy the flowers in bloom, but select and arrange your own beautiful flower bouquets. Don’t be surprised if you see an entire bridal party here selecting their bouquets.

At the vast Market Center, you can shop for a vast array of garden and nature related gifts for the folks back home—or as souvenirs for yourself.

One of my favorite things to do here is to experience the new Butterfly Haus, a 2,000 square foot live butterfly exhibit, where you are surrounded by these dramatic miracles of nature. Again, bring your camera!

If flowers and gardening and nature aren’t your thing, you can settle yourself in the Brew-Bonnet and watch a game on TV.

Visiting Wildseed Farms® is just one of the many fun things to do in Fredericksburg, Texas. As I mentioned in my last article, you can enjoy not only Texas cuisine (from down home to upscale and elegant), but step back in time as you visit its many historical sites.
