The Sony PSP came out on Thursday, March 24th and by the weekend it had sold 1 million units. These new handhelds are simply amazing in what they can do!
Just to show how addictive these things are, we scoured around and got one for me to play with, on Thursday when they came out. I showed the system to my sister on Friday, and by Saturday she had looked around and found one for herself. We spent all evening Saturday playing games wirelessly, head to head!
The unit fits perfectly into your hands, with a nice, large screen and high resolution. There are ports and switches galore on the unit. The right has the traditional four buttons - square, circle, X and triangle. The right has directional buttons, plus a thumb-pad that you can use to steer with. There are nice, clear shoulder pads as well.
The wireless part of the PSP worked perfectly - we played quite a lot of wireless puzzle gaming without any speed issues at all. The screen image is bright and quite detailed. There is of course a headphone port. The games comes on a mini-disc style format - a CD inside a circular plastic case. Game saves are done on a mini-stick. The default that comes with the system has plenty of space for many games as well as a few MP3s as well. You can always buy more sticks or larger sticks if you want.
The system lets you play games, plus play MP3s, show photos and even play movies! Our systems came with a full copy of Spiderman 2. It is simply amazing that they can fit a full DVD quality movie on such a tiny disc.
We are really, really pleased with our PSP and highly recommend this unit to anyone who can get their hands on it. Yes, it's a bit pricey - currently $250 per unit. But this thing is a portable DVD player, portable MP3 player, portable photo shower, and much more!
UPDATE: Here it is 2009 and I still adore my PSP. Well recommended as a multi-use game unit with great games!
