The primary purpose of a Christmas tree skirt is to hide the tree holder along with keeping any shed pine needles off of the floor. In addition to serving a practical function, a Christmas tree skirt can also complement your holiday decor especially in the weeks before Christmas when the space under the tree is bare of gifts. They are most often available in the traditional holiday colors, red, green and white. If you are using another color theme, it can be difficult to find a coordinating tree skirt. Fortunately, they are pretty simple to put together, being basically a circle with a slit to allow it to fit around the base of the tree. The simplest ones are made from felt because felt does not fray so the edges do not need to be as extensively finished as other fabrics.
