In this article, we will take a look at Elementor plugins and how they work to extend the Elementor page builder. We will be examining the free version of these plugins but, of course, there is also a paid or pro version for most of them.

Wordpress has come a long way since its beginning in 2003-2004. With the addition of the Gutenberg and Elementor block-based visual editors, the amount of drag and drop designing has increased and the amount of hand coding has decreased.

These block editors wouldn't be much without the addition of the ever growing directory of plugins that add to or extend Elementor's functionality. These plugins contain a group of widgets and each widget adds a certain feature, ranging from a simple title widget to a complex widget that can process dynamic content. At first glance, the same list of widgets are included in each individual plugin, but if your look closer, each plugin has its own special widget(s).

Unlimited Elements for Elementor

The Unlimited Elements for Elementor plugin by Studio Keren Aga LTD. has a great user friendly interface, with the widgets grouped together by task, a great thumbnail image and a one-click preview for each widget. The widgets in the plugin are not downloaded to your Wordpress installation until you click the Install button for each widget. In this way, the plugin has a smaller footprint. But the greatest feature is the Widget Creator. In the Widget Creator, you can take a peak at the code behind the widgets. In fact, you can edit or customize these widgets as you like and you can also build your own widget with the Widget Creator.

Premium Addons for Elementor

Another great plugin is the Premium Addons for Elementor by Leap 13. This plugin has some great features, such as the beautiful demo examples of their widgets. After looking at these demos, you want to use all of them in your website. You will also appreciate the Lottie Animation integration.

Happy Addons for Elementor

Happy Addons by weDevs is our next example. This plugin has a great feature called Unlimited Section Nesting. Elementor's sections feature only lets you add top level sections to your page. With Happy Addons' Unlimited Section Nesting, you can nest child sections inside top level, parent sections. Other features that come in handy are Floating Effects and CSS Transforms. Finally, there is the Template Importer with over 400 blocks and sections.

Lottie Animations

One feature that I mentioned above that is becoming very common in most of these plugins is Lottie Animations created by Airbnb and LottieFiles by Design Barn Inc. Lottie is a free, open-source JSON-based animation file format, that results in a very small file size and doesn't slow down your website. One reason that Lottie is becoming very popular is that the animation is multi-platform, which means that it can work on iOS, Android, React Native and the web.
