The Beauty of Flowers In Skin and Hair Care

Hello Ethnic Beauty, how does your garden grow? There’s nothing like the smell and color of a beautiful bed of flowers. They adorn our yards and are intertwined with herbs in our gardens. We use them for floral arrangements in our homes, bridal bouquets and yes, burial wreaths. We infuse them in oils for body moisturizers and even crush them into bath salts for soothing tub soaks.

If all of this is true, how can something so beautiful be used when caring for your skin? Let's take a look at some of the flowers that are used when creating skin care products.

Chamomile has calming and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness and soothes irritated skin. It's also known to improve elasticity and heal wounds.

Hibiscus - This flower revives your skin and acts as an exfoliator and an antioxidant. It also acts as a natural hair and scalp conditioner.

Orchids - These beauties help retain moisture and fight free radicals. They also help in renewing your skin with its anti-aging and humectant properties.

Sunflowers - They contain high levels of Vitamin E, sterols and squalene. Vitamin E, sterols and squalene help promote healthy hair and skin. You will see sunflower most often as an oil in health food stores. You can create hydosols for toners and when added to warm water and allowed to sit, it makes a great hair rinse.

Jasmine - This is one of my favorite flowers. Jasmine hydrates and softens your skin and helps in unclogging pores.

Calendula promotes the regeneration of your skin. It also minimizes scar tissue and conditions, soothes and protects your skin.

Violet soothes and heals dry skin conditions. It helps decrease inflammation when your skin is challenged by acne and eczema.

Rose prevents dryness, reduces redness and regenerates and tones aging skin.

You'll find most of these flowers as essential oils. They can easily be added to unscented scrubs, creams, bath salts and lotions for your skin care needs. All it takes is a drop or two and their properties will provide benefits to your entire body.

Need a little flower power in your skin and hair care products? Try adding these to your daily regimen and see how well they work.

That' s it for this week. As always ...
