This verse speaks of being knit together in our mother’s womb. If God pieced us together, he had a particular purpose. Let’s look at his purpose.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us we are God’s workmanship. His creation is nothing less than perfect. The verse goes on to say we were created in Christ Jesus for good works. God prepared works for us to do. This is his purpose for us.
Some call this kingdom building. That is anything that contributes to the purposes of God on this earth. We can find many excuses for not taking part in the good works he prepared.
Most of the excuses I’ve heard and used, have to do with not being able or not being good enough.
I can’t serve the church because__ ______.
(Possible answers: my physical condition, I can’t talk to people about spiritual matters, I’m an introvert.)
I’m of no use to the Kingdom because of ________.
(Possible answers: my past, my lack of knowledge, my inexperience.)

If we can’t take part in the good works God prepared, is it because we missing some essential ingredient? There are certainly those who are a great benefit to the church. They are talented. They are out-going. They are smarter. They are able.
Now let’s look at this week’s memory verse.
In Psalm 139:13 David says “You formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” ESV
Those who have mastered the craft of knitting know that many small stitches fit together to create a larger creation. Each stitch, in that work of art, has a particular purpose. Some stitches look different, and some seem to be put in backwards. But each stitch has a reason and plays a part in the whole garment.
David, in the next verse, Psalm 139:14, says to his Lord, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works.” The NLT translates it as being wonderfully complex.
David composed this psalm, moved by the Holy Spirit. This is God’s word to his people. It says I am wonderfully complex, and so are you.
The Creator of heaven and earth makes no mistakes, so when he knit me together, he had a particular, perfect outcome in mind.
Each stitch of my being is by his design. Even the stitches that appear to be put in backwards. My past experiences, from before I knew the grace of Jesus Christ, play a part in God’s work of art. My shyness, even a halting gait caused by arthritis, can play a part in God’s perfect plan, if I offer myself—the one he created—for his kingdom.
