Fans of bestselling author, Jonathan Kellerman’s, Alex Delaware series will welcome the 33rd novel, Night Moves. Homicide detective Milo Sturgis, has called Alex into a murder investigation because of several angles in which he needs advice on the psychological aspects pertaining to a particularly baffling murder case. Chet Corvin and his family come home to discover a body in the study, a body with no face or hands, and the Corvin family is sure they don’t know him. Although they haven’t identified the body, they know of a neighbor who is extremely strange, and since that neighbor refuses to talk to the police, even Sturgis and Delaware put him on the suspect list. As the novel progresses, Chet is found murdered, and there is no reasonable motive.

Those familiar with Kellerman’s excellent writing know that the novel will have plenty of ups and downs, as well as building suspense and a wholly unexpected dénouement. The main characters have been developed throughout the 32 previous novels, so by this time they are familiar friends. Corvin, et al, have also been well-developed. For those readers who are not familiar with the series, it is recommended that they read the previous novels. However, there is enough background to introduce the characters, and Night Movescan also be read successfully as a stand-alone.

Over the years, Milo, Alex, and the other main characters have changed and evolved, so it is like reading about old friends. The novels most likely won’t be considered literary classics, but will be considered excellent thrillers. The others in the series, along with Night Moves are well-written, fast reads, and fans make them into best sellers as soon as they are released. This one is recommended.
