Tina Frauberger 1921 Book 2 Page 85 Pattern 97
Frau Tina Frauberger Schiffchenspitze 1921 ed. Philippina Christina Lauterbach (1861-1937) married an art historian, Heinrich Frauberger (1845¡V1920), An educated and talented needle artist her first love was for tatting. She designed many patterns both graceful and dainty as well as useful and enduring.

She and her husband founded an institute which taught tatting to those blinded in WW1. During the post-war years she published two books of tatting patterns. Both these books are available for free download.

Among the many awesome tatting patterns in the Fraubergers book, this is one of my favorites. Depending on how you view it, this edging is actually an insertion of at least 5 rows.

This is the original photo from the book.

Below you can see the outer edging which is tatted in two passes. And there is also an inner line of rings and split rings.

Continuing the line of the diagrams, the next one shows the double stitch (DS) count. Note a few hand corrections. Depending on your tension and the thickness of your thread you may alter the ds for a smoother look.

Here you can see the suggested method of work.

Row 1 and 3 = option 1 = regular rings surrounded by chains and alternating chains; option 2 = onion rings with alternating chains

Row 2 and 4 = plain chains
The center line of rings only may be tatted in two ways. Please see diagram below.

Using split rings it is possible to tat the rings in a line joining to the two outer sections as you tat. Start at left and proceed to the right.

OR
Begin with a large ring as an scmr and then continue with split rings.
Enjoy!
