Multiple Artboard Template in Photoshop CC

In the previous tutorial, we created a new document in Photoshop CC which contained one artboard for an Instagram post layout. Now, we will learn how to add additional artboards to our Photoshop CC document, by adding artboard post layouts for Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. We can do this easily by duplicating our existing artboard.

For the new artboards, we will use the pixel width and height dimensions for Facebook, Pinterst and Twitter posts.

Facebook 940 x 788
Pinterest 735 x 1102
Twitter 1024 x 512

Our first step will be to rename our existing artboard from "Artboard 1" to "Instagram Post Layout". Then we will duplicate this artboard.

  1. Open the document that we started in the last tutorial.

  2. Double-click the Artboard 1 title in the Layers panel.

  3. Rename the layer to "Instagram Post Layout".

Now we can add a new artboard.

  4. Select the Artboard icon in the Tools panel (see screenshot).

You should see the Plus icons surrounding the original artboard (see screenshot). Let's add the new artboard to the right of the existing artboard.

  5. Click the Plus icon on the right side of the Instagram Post Layout artboard.

You will see a duplicate of the original artboard named Artboard 1 by default (see screenshot). In the Layers panel, you should see the new artboard added above the original artboard.

  6. Let's rename this artboard to "Facebook Post Layout" in the Layers panel.

Now we need to change the pixel dimensions for the Facebook requirements.

  7. With the Facebook Post Layout artboard selected, you will see the pixels dimensions displayed in the Tool Options bar. Change the Width to 940 and the Height to 788 pixels (see screenshot).

Let's add the post layout artboard for Pinterest using another method.

  8. Select the Artboard icon in the Tools panel.

  9. Click and drag to "draw" the third artboard. As you drag, watch the pixel display box (see screenshot) until the dimensions are set to 735 x 1102. Release your mouse.

You should have a new artboard with the title "Artboard 1".

  10. Click the Artboard 1 title with the Move tool and drag to position this new artboard next to the second artboard (see screenshot).

  11. Rename this artboard to "Pinterest Post Layout".

Let's repeat this process to add the last post layout artboard for Twitter. Save your work.

At this point, we have the beginnings of a great social media graphics template. In the next few tutorials, we will add placeholders for the art, shapes and text design elements, keeping reusability in mind.

Extra Facts:

If our original artboard contained design elements, we could duplicate the artboard along with its design elements by adding the Options key when clicking on the Plus icon.

Also, when creating an artboard from scratch, you have your choice of presets (see screenshot).
