Return of the Warrior

Hello, and welcome back! I spent half a day over the weekend clearing out flowerbeds and my muscles are still aching. I wonder if I could persuade the boys to clear out the rest? Probably not. Oh well, at least spring is finally here and beginning to bloom, along with the hyacinths and daffodils in the gardens.

First up this week, I have the latest from Kinley MacGregor: Return of the Warrior
Return of the Warrior
(Avon). Queen Adara has come to claim her husband, Christian of Acre. Only Christian doesn't know he's married, and being a husband is something that is nowhere in his life plans. But saving her kingdom is most important to Adara now, and Christian can't help but admire her determination. I enjoyed this one, though I can't say it's a keeper for me. I didn't totally relate to Adara, and I didn't fall in love with Christian, though there is an interesting cast of secondary characters, many of whom I feel certain will be getting their own stories told later in this series. I'm borrowing three of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Then we have Diane Tyrell's On Winding Hill Road
On Winding Hill Road
(Berkley). Sarah Logan's taken on an odd new job, as companion to wounded race car driver Gatien Defalle's young daughter. As the regular readers know, stories told in first person are not my favorite ones, and this one was no exception. It's billed as a gothic, but honestly, I didn't agree. Never while reading this story did I think Sarah was in any danger from Gatien, which used to be a prerequisite for gothic romance. I have higher hopes for the paperback release of Brenda Joyce's latest, Double Take
Double Take
, because her last two contemporaries were very definitely gothic, and extremely well-done.

Until next time, happy reading!
