Astral projection and dreaming are very similar. The only difference is what aspect of the dreamer is controlling the dream. Regular dreaming is guided by our sub-conscious mind. Astral projection, or out of body experiences, are guided by our conscious mind.
Signs of an astral projection coming on can include buzzing sensations or roaring sounds, feelings of difficulty breathing, or even the feeling of pulling out of the body through the abdomen or solar plexus. We are more likely to astral project when we are already well rested. For instance, if you doze off in the morning after hitting the "snooze" button on your alarm you may have noticed that you are aware of everything happening around you, yet you feel like you are asleep. Or you may have even experienced getting up and going into the bathroom to get ready for work only to discover that you were actually still sleeping.
Projecting out of body is actually much easier than you would think. Fear is the greatest cause of failure when trying to astral project. You need to be completely relaxed and open to the experience. Make sure your body is well rested; so in the morning after you have already awakened once or maybe during an early afternoon nap would be a prime time to try projecting out of body. Simply set the intention that you will project, relax, close your eyes, and visualize that you are somewhere else. If you donít succeed the first time, just keep practicing, and keep in mind that astral projection can easily turn into a regular dream if you don't consciously hold on to the thought that you are projecting.
Astral projection will take you into many other realities besides the one where you live. You make project to find yourself in your own bedroom, yet the color of the walls may be different. Or you may travel back in time, or into the future, or even to other worlds. You may find yourself conversing with angels and spirit guides.
You may also find yourself in unpleasant situations if you are already experiencing fear when starting out, so when out of body make sure to take a spirit guide or angel with you, or at the very least know that you can call them if you feel you are in any kind of trouble.
We may find ourselves doing a lot of working and volunteering in the astral. Sometimes we volunteer to do healing or other work in the astral plane, and we may actually wake to find ourselves more tired than when we went to bed. If this is the case, you may set your intention as you go to bed that for that night you will rest.
We also may find ourselves in a classroom situation in an Astral University reading books with strange symbols and colorful pictures. We may meet teachers or guides who help direct us along our path, or give us insights into problems we may be experiencing.
Everyone "projects" whether they know it or not, it's just our level of consciousness that determines if we are dreaming, lucid dreaming or astral projecting. Whether we are in the Universal classroom or flying over the trees in our neighborhood, out of body experiences present us with opportunities to learn and grow both spiritually and emotionally.
