Moe: How long have you been an artist?Jill Haney-Neal: I have been addicted to art since childhood, and have a degree in sculpture.
Moe: What are Wild Women?
Jill Haney-Neal: Not "wild women", but "wild tasteful women". There IS a difference! We can lift our pinkies!
Moe: What was your motivation behind Wild Women?
Jill Haney Neal: Women have so many great round shapes, that it was fun to depict them. Think about how balanced a woman is: the round bosoms balance out the round buns, whereas men just get the round belly, so are very "unbalanced"! :) I like to think of my "ladies" as not fat, but as having the things that make us female "exaggerated" helping to depict the "attitude" that we have while doing what makes us women "special"! The way one holds ones body reflects a certain attitude, and that is what I am most interested in portraying! Most women can relate, as the art is from a woman's point of view...and I'm pleased to realize that I'm more normal than I thought, as customers giggle and can see themselves in the images!
Moe: Are you a plus-size woman?Jill Haney Neal: Nope, I'm not plus size, although I have extras in the "balanced" department� bubble buns and bust!
Moe: Do you work from live models?
Jill Haney Neal: Live models? My friends! :) I have hours and hours of live drawing and sculpting in my art background, and without the knowledge of the truly realistic human body, I wouldn't have the basis for what I do.
Moe: What other mediums do you work with and do they involve plus-size women as a motivation?
Jill Haney Neal: I do have a few Bronze sculptures, and hope to get more into that in the next few years, and am also doing a few pieces in oils, as well as watercolors. Watercolors are fun, and have a lot of variations, so mostly I have been sticking to this medium...especially since I do not have as much time to paint as I'd like!
Moe: How long does it take you to complete a piece?
Jill Haney Neal: Some pieces take only a few hours, while others take days. Usually an image "pops" completely into my head before I even start to paint. Right now my head is already popping and ready to explode with ideas that are complete. I just go through life, and certain things seem to trigger an image, so I have to paint it!
Moe: Who buys your work?
Jill Haney Neal: Most of my customers are women, like myself, fighting with the demons of fried food and chocolate, middle age, etc, by arming ourselves with friends to share life with! Women have a special camaraderie, support, and sense of humor, regardless of background, income, religion, race, etc. We all have a certain sense of coping with life, and, as I have tried to explain to my husband, we all get a little rowdy when we get together! (Wildly and tastefully of course!) Women like to have fun, and laugh and enjoy their friends! Moe: What do you want to be remembered for?
Jill Haney Neal: I'd like to be remembered most for showing the joyful side of women (that men do NOT understand) that we all have in common � doing so "tastefully" of course!
