Find a Niche and Fill It

I am sure all of you have read the advertisements about some stay at home mom that makes $3,000,000 a year working two hours a day on her computer. If you did not already know, then let me tell you that is hogwash. If it were true you would not be able to pry the “how-to” information out of her with a crowbar. She would have employees under contract doing the same thing eight hours a day and making more money per year than Madonna.

The best advice I can give you is to find a niche and fill it. If you read my bio you know that I started my first company when I was sixteen years old. It was not glamorous, it was not easy but it made money. I happened to stumble upon a niche that needed to be filled. I prepared the inserts for newspaper carriers that delivered the Sunday papers. I do not know how the papers are put together now, but back then they came in at least three sections. There was the comic, with the advertisements in it, the lifestyles section and the rest of the newspaper that came out Sunday morning with the current news. I put the comic and lifestyles together every Saturday so it was easier for the paper carriers to deliver the Sunday paper. I had six employees or more at a time to help me with this and I charged the paper carriers two cents per paper and paid my employees one cent per paper. I found a niche and I filled it.

If I had done what everyone else my age was doing I would have went to work for a local hamburger joint and flipped burgers for minimum wage. If you want to make more money than everyone else then you are going to have to do things differently than everyone else. There is some niche that every one of us can fill. You are going to have to find what that is for you and take advantage of it. Do not let fear hold you back. You may not be successful the first time you try but if you keep trying and learning from each experience you will eventually become successful.

A few years ago a lot of people were making good money cleaning houses for others. Most of them were women who enjoyed cleaning and with a growing economy and full employment there were plenty of clients for these women to choose from. Unfortunately that is not the case in today’s economy. Even I had a lady that came by once a week, but that is an unrealistic fantasy for me now! I however discovered what could be a niche for those ladies a few days ago. Cleaning ceiling fans!

I do not know the business requirements for a cleaning company and do not advise anyone to enter anyone’s house alone. If you have a cleaning company or have had one in the past you should be familiar with those requirements and it is up to you to take all necessary precautions if you decide to do this.

With the weather getting cooler my ceiling fans have been turned off and when they stop you can clearly see the dust. I would gladly pay someone twenty dollars per fan to clean my ceiling fans for me and that gave me the idea for a niche that could be filled. I believe that cleaning companies that have lost clients could put flyers on peoples doors telling them a date they will be in the neighborhood and offer to clean the ceiling fans. It does not take long to do it, its not hard work, and it has to be done. This could easily replace some of the income from clients that you have lost due to the poor economy. It will also get your company name into the hands of potential clients that may need your company later. With the holidays coming up there will be many people who will need help getting their house ready for guest.

If you have a cleaning company and decide to try this please let me know how it works out for you. I am here to help you help yourself!
