Disco Pigs, A Movie Review

"Disco Pigs" is a very different kind of Irish movie than we've come to expect. No cute dancing, no sweet music---anything but. Cillian Murphy plays Pig (real name, Darren), the ethereally beautiful boy bonded from birth to Runt, really named Sinead, (the equally lovely Elaine Cassidy.)

The movie starts out beautifully, with scenes from the womb and the birth of Sinead, her thoughts, and bonding to the darling little boy baby in the next crib. How sweet. And it is sweet...for a little while. The two are inseparable, share a private language, private lives, a real love story, right?

But wait, the parents are soon in the school and there are decisions to be made. Clues that all is not right start to show up in the tenor of the pranks played by the lively pair. Soon, too soon, there comes the sense that this is not going to be a movie with a happy ends.

Well worth watching. It's not "The Butcher Boy," but for suspense and surprise, it's very close.
