Aromatherapy

Essential oils affects a person, first through sense of smell, having a deep subconscious effect on emotion, triggering memory, and altering attitudes, when applied on the skin, these oils have the power to heal, relieve pain, and stimulate the body natural healing processes.

Aromatherapy dates back 6000 year, the Bible has 188 references to essential oil. Egyptians used essential oils in medicines, cosmetics, to purify the air and a preservative for mummification. The survival of the Egyptian mummies is evident to the extraordinary powers of essentials oil.

Exploring the benefit of aromatherapy with only a handful of inexpensive oils, can be a rewarding experience, as long as you use them with caution. Buying a book on aromatherapy can give you information on individual oils and general safety advice. Remember to always perform a skin test, to avoid allergic reactions.

Six basic oils that every household should have:

Lavender: Excellent first-aid oil, stimulates skin cells to heal quickly.

Tea Tree: Very gentle to the skin, simulate immune system, disinfects, and alleviate pain.

Rosemary: Up lifting, enhance memory, disinfectant.

Chamomile: Relieve insomnia, headaches, sooth pain.

Peppermint: Mental stimulant, helps to overcome fatigue, and muscle aches.

Geranium: stress reliever, emotional balancing.

By investing in these six oils, you can start practicing aromatherapy.

Relaxing Bath-
4-drops lavender, 2- drops chamomile, for sore joints, mix oils with
1c. Epsom salts, Sea Salt and 1/4c. Baking Soda.
Try 2-3 drops of essential oil in unscented shower gel or favorite shampoo. Mix well.

Foot Soak-
1/2c. Epson salt, 5-drops Tea Tree, 1-drop Peppermint, 5-drops Lavender, blends in hot water. Helps sooth aches, soften skin, and reduce swelling.

Stiff Neck-
3-drops Lavender, 1-drop Tea Tree, 2-drops Chamomile, 1-drop Peppermint, 3c hot water, blend, soak a soft cloth, wring it, then wrap around your neck. To hold heat cover with a towel.

Minor cuts-
Clean affected area, apply a cold compress made with 4-drops Lavender, 4-drops Tea Tree, may be used directly on wound.

Headaches-
2-drops Rosemary, 3-drops Lavender, and 2 tbsp of carrier oil, Sweet Almond, massage circular motion on temple, and forehead, If caught in the initial state of pain, uncapping and smelling the essential oil can sometime stop headache from developing. Close your eyes when inhaling.

Insomnia-
Place 2-4 drops of Lavender, Chamomile on a tissue, and place in the pillowcase. Direct Inhalation put several drops on a tissue or handkerchief and inhale. This method offers a very fast absorption into your system and the benefits can be seen almost immediately.

Ant Problem-
Place a few drops of Peppermint oil where they enter the home.

Carpet Freshener-
1c. Baking soda, 3/4c. Cornstarch, and 25-drops of your favorite oil, example, Rosemary, Geranium. Sprinkle on carpet, let set for a few minutes, then vacuum.

Hair-
Apply 2-drops of your favorite Essential Oil to your hairbrush, Lavender, Geranium:

Sheets and towels-
Add your favorite Essential Oil to the rinse cycle when washing.
