I recently watched Bambi for the first time in many years. I first saw this movie as a child in grammer school. It's beauty remains in my minds eye.
What I most remember is a teacher comforting me while I cried as Bambi called out to his mother, I heard the shot and realized his mother was dead.
As an adult, I have told friends that I cried in school while watching Bambi, neither they or I could figure out why. I thought that I had remembered the whole movie. When I saw the movie again, I realized why I cried. I only remembered the very positive elements of this beautiful movie, what I did not remember was the brutality.
In the movie Bambi's mother alerts him to dangers of man and you see Bambi cowering before coming out to play in the meadow. Later his mother is killed, the forest is burned, a bird panics and is killed on the fly. Oh My! Of course, Spring arrives and all is right with the world. If your little one is going to watch this video, it would do well to stay nearby. There are many positives in this beautiful animated movie, a parents love, enduring friendship, rebirth of nature and becoming adult and having your own family. Walt Disney's Bambi is about the circle of life.
The color in this digital restoration Bambi video is absolutely spectacular.
Recommended with parent nearby because while it is a very beautiful movie, there are disburbing aspects to the movie. Death and dying is natural, even when it is an accidental death. Still seeing it on screen may be unsettling for some little ones as it was for me those many years ago.
