Scrapbooking - Getting Started

To begin scrapbooking there are several things that you need. You already have your memories and hopefully some photos! That is the most important part. Here are a few other items that you will need to get your scrapbook started.

Albums The choices on albums can be overwhelming. There are different sizes, shapes, colors, and loading systems available. Look at the different types and decide what is best for you. There are D-ring, strap hinge and post-bound. You will also need to decide on the size. There are 12x12, 6x6, 8x8, and 8 1/2x11. You can find albums in various colors and themes as well.

Journaling - Adding journaling is what makes your book a scrapbook. Journaling is of extreme importance so that when someone is looking through your album they can read the story. You will need acid free journaling pens to add your journaling to your scrapbook page.

Basic Tools - One important tool that you will need is a 12x12 paper cutter. There are many different types available. You will also need a pair of sharp scissors. Acid free adhesives to stick everything down is a must. There are multiple types of adhesives from glues to tapes. As you begin scrapbooking choose what works for you and later on you may find there are other adhesives you would like to add for adhering different things.

If you would like your scrapbook to be a little fancier than just the photos and journaling there are some other items that you will want to add to your colllection.

Paper There are so many acid free and lignan free papers on the market. You can find them in every styles, colors, and theme. There is paper weight and cardstock. There are also textured papers that can add a special touch to your albums.

Embellishments This is where you can get in trouble when you are shopping! Stickers, buttons, rub ons, ribbons, metal objects, pearls, glitter or even items you find around your house can add some zing to your pages.
