Laberynth is a classic game I played with actual wood and marbles as a child. It involves navigating the marble around a wooden track. The iPod Touch does an awesome job of recreating this game with motion sensing technology.
It is really stunning how well they did with this app. Even your slightest hand motion is sensed as you carefully guide the metal ball along the wooden board. A gentle nudge left, a slide right, and the ball reacts with perfect physics.
The board is beautiful. I love the grained wood they show. It really makes you feel like you're playing with a handcrafted set. Even the sounds the ball makes as it moves around the board are great.
There are a number of challenging levels in the free set - and for a small price you can download a full 500 levels to challenge yourself even more. However, the best part is that for FREE you can use their online level design and make any levels you want!
Their design tool is incredibly easy to use, and it's a one-click operation to get your new designs immediately down to your iPod Touch. I made up one that had a L + B on it, and it worked perfectly. You could make personalized boards that have initials on them, shapes, whatever you want! Whatever your challenge range, you could make a board that works just right for that.
Are there any downsides to the game? Well, if you have shaky hands you're going to have real problems here. It is not a slow paced strategy game. You definitely need VERY good hand eye coordination to work at this. That's fine. If you're more a trivia buff, there are plenty of trivia games out there for you to enjoy. Labyrinth is specifically about working on your fine motor skills, and this is definitely an area where the more you practice, the better you get. We can all use to get better hand control, and this game helps you to practice those skills with a fun environment.
Highly recommended. The game is fun enough as it is to start with, and the free level designer makes it just about perfect for all ages.
