The Moors and Christians Festival lasts for four days and ends on the 14th. The festival dates back to the 13th century when the Christians conquered the Moors and recaptured the city. Colorful decorations and amazing fireworks highlight the celebrations. There are even re-enactments of famous battles.

The festival starts with “dianas”, walking the streets and waking the town members. Next, the “entradas” of the Christians and Moors, reenacting battles and dialogues captures the audience. The fun ends with eating and drinking. The festivities are free for all to enjoy.

Travel northwest of Madrid to the city of Salamanca and you can participate in the festival celebrating their patron saint – San Juan Sahagun. The celebration lasts four days and is filled with food and entertainment. There is never a dull moment as the festivities are continuous throughout the four day period. Celebrations begin on June 12.

Make a stop in the capital city of Madrid for the summer city festival. The party begins in June and lasts through September. Opera singers, international stars, and traditional music fill the streets. As always, you can enjoy great food and company.

On the northeast coast of Spain, the Barcelona Summer Festival lasts from June through July. The festival is also called the Grec festival and is an infusion of contemporary dance, theatre, and music.
