If you are good with plastic canvas, try making the shapes of the card suits into coasters. You'll need red yarn for the hearts and diamonds. Black yarn, of course, will be used for spades and clubs. Use a regular plain stitch if you want; or stitch them with a fancy design if you are more advanced. You may have to search the internet for the spades and club shaped plastic canvas. Hearts and diamonds can usually be found in craft stores at any given time.
You could also take small tiles and glue small colored pebbles to the top. This would be a great craft for children to do. Fish gravel is the best for this project. The pebbles are almost uniform in size and they come in a variety of colors. The design could be as simple as placing a few pebbles in a scattered pattern, or even making simple designs. You could make an intricate design or picture on the top.
Card players need snacks. If you are into pottery, try making a snack set for the group. One big bowl to hold everything and a lot of little matching bowls is one idea. Plates of differet sizes may also come into play here.
If you are into woodworking, there is a vast array of items you could make for card players. Dish sets are among the items you may be thinking of. Lazy Susans help everyone at the table get what they need without having to ask people to pass the item. They can hold food as well as cards and chips, depending on how it is made.
If you like to paint or decoupage, try your handicraft on wooden or paper maiche boxes you can find at your local craft store. The size of the box should be big enough to hold at least one deck of cards. Boxes could also be made to hold poker chips, small golf pencils, and blank paper for keeping score.
Should you happen to have leftover cards from old decks, you could try doing an antique finish on the box. When that dries, you could decoupage some of the old cards onto the box. Decorating with ribbon or rubber stamp designs would make a unique spin on this project as well.
Plastic canvas workers may also find themselves looking for a coozie pattern to make drink holders. If you find a good pattern, try designing the card suits onto a grid and transferring the design onto the plastic canvas. You could also work the hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades into a plastic canvas tissue box pattern.
If you sew, you could also make coozies, hats, and even drawstring carryalls for chips, cards, etc. You could even make the carryall and fill it with cards, chips and even snacks. There is fabric out there with cards and the card suits on them. That should not be hard to find.
If you sew, how about making your favorite card player their own lucky shirt? If you do not sew, try using fabric paint for designing on the shirt. There are rhinestones and rhinestone machines to help make a unique shirt for your favorite female card player.
BOOKS AND BOOKMARKS:
Rubber stamp crafts are good for many uses. You could make bookmarks to mark a players place in a favorite card game book; which you could purchase and give to them as well.
Beading people can also get in on the bookmark idea. Using the already made bookmark with the hole on top, thread the string or wire in the loop and dangle a bead, or two on the end. You can also use a long piece of braided yarn, or macrame cord and attach a bead or lucky charm on each end for a bookmark.
The items you make do not have to be for your favorite card players. Some of these items might also make great sellers at flea markets, bazaars, and craft shows. Whatever the reason for making the item or items, have fun!
