Sewing Instructions for Fashion Doll Dress

Here are sewing instructions for a dress to fit an eleven inch fashion doll. It should fir most Barbie type dolls, but to be sure it will fit your doll please refer to my article on my doll's measurements here.

This dress is made with some extremely small pieces of fabric. I highly encourage you to press your fabric before sewing the dress together and do the actual sewing by hand.

Start by sewing the front and back of the bodice together at the shoulder seams, right sides facing. Turn under the neck edge, 1/8 inch, to the wrong side and stitch the lace to the inside.

Fold both sleeve pieces in half, from top to bottom to find the center top (curved edge). Line up the fold at the top of each sleeve with the shoulder seams and sew the sleeves in place, gathering slightly the sleeve to fit the bodice. Turn under the sleeve hems 1/8 inch, twice, and stitch. Sew the under arm and bodice side seams.

Using a long basting stitch, on a long edge of the skirt, gather the skirt to fit the bottom edge of the bodice. Stitch the skirt to the bodice. Stitch the center back seam of the skirt, from the bottom edge to 3/4 inch below the waist. Turn under the skirt hem 1/8 inch, twice, and stitch.

Turn under the remaining center back seam 1/8 inch, on both sides and stitch. Attach the velcro dots or snaps, to close the back of the dress.

Stitch the ribbon to the bodice, along the waist and turn ends to the wrong side at the center back and tack in place.

Enjoy!
