Todays Farrah Fawcett is a Classic Style

Have you noticed how some styles are destined to become classics? As soon as they are created, they take on the name of the first person to wear them in the public eye, These are the very best of styles and are destined to be resurrected and recreated for each generation.

The classic style I’ll be talking about this week is the Farrah Fawcett. Farrah hit the scene in the 70’s as one of Charlie’s Angles. Farrah’s trademark look was fluffy with lots of flip and was created with hot rollers. Women of all ages, across the country, flocked to salons to get the new cut and to learn how to style their own hair this way. Everywhere, we were growing our hair out so that we could wear this free, ultra-feminine style.

Now thirty years later, we see the Farrah Fawcett making a hit on the style scene in a new updated form that is clearly in keeping with the year 2002. This update of the Angel’s ‘do is not so fluffy and not so flippy, but has all the femininity and all the trendy, fashion sense of the 70’s version.

To create this year’s version of the Farah Fawcett, you won’t need those hot rollers or even a curling iron.

Follow these steps:

Start with a long-layered haircut that is texturized throughout and angled sharply from your cheekbone to the bottom.

Apply a holding mouse or hair gel to your wet hair, making sure to cover your hair from the root area to the ends. You will need it at the root area to help it to lift off the scalp when you blow it dry and you will need it on the ends when you hold the flip.

Blow your hair dry, upside down if you need fullness.

Next, use a flat-iron to smooth and cause the hair to flip without curling.
To do this clamp your flat iron onto the hair, high on the hair shaft. Then draw the iron down the hair (this smoothes it) until you are about four inches from the end. Then, turn the flat iron in an upward motion, creating a slight upward bend in the hair. This is your “flip.”

Finish your Farah Fawcett with a light flexible hair spray to help keep the shape. You may also use a pomade, spray wax or hair crème to cause separation or the pieces and add texture to your hair.

With these simple steps, you have your Charlie’s Angels retro look while still firmly established in the present.
