Inside Wrestling's Ultimate WrestleMania Card

Inside Wrestling, a sister publication to Pro Wrestling Illustrated, came out with a issue that features an article called “Ultimania” The All-Time WrestleMania Dream Card. They list twenty matches of superstars from various wrestling eras competing against each other. I will count them down from number twenty to number one.

The first match I will discuss is 2004 Bill Goldberg versus The Undertaker from 2007. Both are powerful men and both men are all business in the ring. Goldberg is noted for undefeated streaks and the Undertaker is noted for undefeated streaks too. His are at WrestleMania and since this is a WrestleMania Dream Card, I see the match ending when Goldberg nails the Undertaker with his “Jack Hammer”. He goes for the pin and the Undertaker reverses it into his “Triangle of Death” submission hold. Seconds later, Goldberg is spitting up blood and tapping out. Inside Wrestling also picked the Undertaker to win this one.

The next match is 2008 C.M. Punk taking on the 1998 version of Mick Foley. Inside Wrestling has C.M. Punk winning this WrestleMania match-up, but, they don’t mention that it could be a specialty match. What if this was a “Hell In A Cell” match? Would the Straight Edge still have the winning edge? I don’t think so. Mick Foley would bloody himself up first or break a limb and then coming back to bloody Punk up and get the victory.

2005 JBL takes on a big man named Diesel in the next match and this Diesel is from 1995. They should have made this a Bradshaw from eh APA against Diesel, but I digress. Inside Wrestling has Diesel winning this match-up against JBL with his jackknife power bomb and I would have to agree with that.

The next match up features a 2006 Rey Misterio Jr. going up against the 1985 version of Tito Santana. I have this match going to Rey Rey when Santana attempts his flying forearm smash, but, Rey ducks and Santana hits the ropes. Rey nails him with the 619 and gets the pinfall. Inside Wrestling has Rey winning as well by hitting the 619 as well.

The next match is so preposterous that I refuse to comment on it except to say that the magazine has 1985 Mr. T going up against Floyd Mayweather of 2008. They also have Mike Tyson as the Enforcer who, for some reason winds up having an altercation with Lawrence Taylor and Mr. T winning the match. Mr. T is not a real boxer, Mayweather is. ‘Nuff said.

The next match-up could still actually happen. Inside Wrestling has 2003 Brock Lesnar going up against 2007 Bobby Lashley and since they are both in MMA now, this match could very well happen and be even better because it won’t be scripted. The magazine has Lesnar winning and I think Lashley would come out victorious.

Unfortunately, space doesn’t allow me to critique each match so I will leave you with the number one match as listed by Inside Wrestling. 1987’s Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat going up against 1996’s Shawn Michaels. This match would truly be a classic and there would probably be over thirty pin attempts between the two of them but in the sixty plus minute match, I have Steamboat narrowly getting a pinfall on Michaels. Inside Wrestling has HBK winning with his Sweet Chin Music super kick.

Get the magazine. It is actually two magazines in one. When you get to the end of it, you flip it over and there is another magazine called “The Wrestler”. It is definitely worth the money and there are some interesting matches in this Dream Card plus there are plenty of other articles in the magazine(s). It is cover dated: Volume 27, 2009. If you want to see the rest of the matches and my commentary on them, then come to the wrestling forum at BellaOnline.com

See you at the matches.
