Cheap Eats in Japan - Ramen Noodles

Ramen noodles are a cheap and filling meal for the traveler and expatriate on a budget in Japan. The people of Japan love the noodles. There are ten of the thousands Ramen noodle shops. They range from fancy restaurants to food stalls.

Ramen noodles originated in China. The Japanese adapted the Chinese noodles to their taste. And each region in Japan has its own speciality. Ramen like Soba and Udon noodles are versatile. There are no limits on how to eat the delicious noodles.

Like the Soba and Udon noodle, Ramen is boiled and placed in a bowl. Broth is poured over the noodles. Requested toppings are added to the bowl and served to the diner. Again, the toppings can be anything. They usually are vegetables, meats or seafood or any combination. The broth depends on the chef.

These Ramen noodles are nothing like the dry packaged noodles. They are a fresh and healthy dish for the diner. Try a bowl or two while in Japan. Ramen noodle shops are everywhere in Japan. The convenience stores (conbini) like 7-Eleven and Lawson’s sell Ramen noodle meals. They will microwave your selection.

If interested in trying true ramen noodles at home, then try this web site. Remember the topping may be anything of your choice. Try stir-fry vegetables. A tasty dish is stir-fried greens and garlic. Place the greens in the bowl containing noodles and broth. Grab a pair of chopsticks and enjoy.
