Who would have thought biscuits could be so good? Each biscuit is fluffy -- at least three inches tall -- and delicious. If your meal doesn't come with one, order one on the side.
Although Flying Biscuit does serve meat, it is so vegetarian friendly, you won´t even notice the other items on the menu. And if nothing on the menu strikes your fancy, have a salad and a biscuit. Both items are that good.
Start your meal off with an order of the fried green tomatoes. This Southern classic is cooked to perfection at this restaurant, and the accompanying cashew-jalapeno relish is not to be missed. On a cold day, try the Stoup, which changes daily and is somewhere between a soup and a stew. I had the Tomato Vegetable Stoup one time, and it is definitely the answer to what ails you.
For those vegetarians craving a burger, Flying Biscuit offers the Angel Burger and the Devil Burger. Both burgers are vegetable and grain patties, but one is sweet (with a roasted red pepper mustard sauce) and one is spicy (with a smoky jalapeno sauce). These burgers are among the best around, quickly outshining the offerings of lesser restaurants trying to keep up with the trends.
Another excellent option is the Vegan Southern Style Burrito, which is a medley of bbq tofu, collard greens and mushrooms wrapped in a sun-dried tomato tortilla and smothered with a tangy salsa verde. Cheese and sour cream are available, but this tasty treat doesn´t need the distraction.
Although I have yet to try the desserts at Flying Biscuit, I usually close my meal with a soy cappuccino. Soy milk seems to froth better and results in a very rich coffee experience.
Flying Biscuit has two locations in Atlanta, both open daily. For more information on their hours and location, please visit their web site.
